Latex concentrate is used for many products but its main use is in dipped products, namely, household gloves, surgical gloves, examination gloves, industrial gloves, condoms and balloons. Other uses include foam products, .
such as mattresses and cushions, carpet backing and underlay, rubberized hair and coir, adhesives, latex thread and reconstituted leather products.
With the spread of AIDS virus, dipped products make up more than 60% of latex concentrate consumption. More than 90% of the latex concentrated is produced by centrifuged process. Other forms of concentrations include
creaming, evaporation and electro decantation. In Thailand, 3 types of latex are produced, HA, MA and LA-TZ. |

| Interpretation of the data provided in the certificate of analysis accompanying each consignment of latex concentrate is important in order to compound the latex properly thus producing good products and reducing rejects. While DRC is maintained at 60% for the purpose of sales, TSC is very often used in calculation for compounding. The difference between TSC and DRC would indicate the amount of non-volatile substances in the latex. The percentage of ammonia show the level of preservative present and this has a direct effect on the chemical stability of latex. The VFA number would indicate how well the latex is preserved in the field latex stage and MST, its stability to mechanical shear and stress in the concentrate. The presence of copper would cause serious detrimental effects on the latex products and magnesium can cause many dipping problems in gloves production. |
